God's Sword of Truth - The Word
What is a backslider? A backslider is a person who turned away from God after conversion.
BACKSLIDING DESCRIBED AS......
Turning to Satan - "For some are already turned aside after Satan." 1 Timothy 5:15.
Turning back to the world - "For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia." 2 Timothy 4:10.
Tempting Christ - "Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents." 1 Cor. 10:9.
Turning from First Love - "Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love." Revelations 2:4.
Turning from the Gospel - "O' foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, receive ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Have ye suffered so many things in vain? If it be yet in vain. He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?" Galatians 3:1-5.
BACKSLIDING PROMPTED BY......
Spiritual Blindness - "But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins." Revelations 3:17. "Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked."2 Peter 1:9.
Material Things - "And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful." Mark 4:18,19. "For the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."1 Timothy 6:10.
Tribulation - "But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while; for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the world, by and by he is offended." Matthew 13:20,21.
